Sept 26 | The Alchemy of Oil Paint: Craft Your Own 8-Color Palette

Have you ever wanted to build a custom oil palette from scratch? In this intensive, hands-on workshop, you will learn the art and science of paint-making by crafting your own set of seven 20ml and one 8ml tubes of oil paint.

Not all pigments behave the same way on the palette. We have specially curated a diverse selection of materials to give you hands-on experience with how different pigments absorb oil, require different grinding techniques, and handle under the muller.

You will work with and tube the following:

• 1 Lightening & 1 Darkening Color: to build your core values.
• 2 Earth Pigments: to experience their reliable, natural body and ease of mixing.
• 2 Synthetic Organic Pigments: to understand their intense tinting strength and modern chemistry.
• 1 Mineral Pigment (8ml tube): to feel the traditional grit and texture of historical colors.
• 1 Pearlescent Pigment: to explore unique, shimmering effects.

What to expect: This workshop is heavily focused on technique and troubleshooting. You will learn how to read the physical feedback of the paint and adjust your oil ratios when a pigment misbehaves or resists mixing.

A quick note on our process: Hand-mulling paint from scratch is a labor of love! Because creating eight fully finished colors in a single afternoon is an incredibly difficult task, our goal for the day is to mix and tube high-quality oil color pastes. You will take these filled tubes home, and they may simply require a quick, final mulling on your own palette before you paint with them.

*Please note: This will take place in our downstairs or mezzanine workshop space which is only accessible by stairs.

• CANCELLATION POLICY: You can cancel for a refund up to 3 DAYS BEFORE a class. This means that you have until Wednesday to cancel your registration for a Saturday class.
